Being body aware is crucial to my running progress
Listening to your body — being aware — is one of the biggest lessons I learnt. I didn’t start running until I was 70 — I hated it before then but I decided that I needed more variety in my exercise.
I started trail running at 70 — aside from being bitten by dogs I love it
Train running is stimulating and keeps your brain on high alert
My trial and error is enabled through listening to my body, and this continues every time I run. Old bodies like mine always have creaks and pains and these need to be nurtured during the run.
Tonight, for example, I ran 6km in 29m 48secs and I had a niggling pain on top of my left foot which I had to nurse along my regular trail. Despite the niggles, I enjoy running now.
I’m looking forward to reading more of your advice. Thanks.
