I run every day, I do run for a distance - between 4 and 7km usually. I agree with you to not check your pace, that's what drives you to injuries. I recently wrote about "How I’ve Trail Run 5km Daily For 237 Days Injury-free" and my #1 factor is to run to remain injury-free. That is the big change in mentality I needed to maintain daily running.
