Well said. I think that there is an additional facet. “Checking your brain in at the door” still proliferates as evidenced by low levels of employee engagement.

Behaving like an adult doesn’t require you to contribute to your best ability – it may alert you to more ways to become overtly active and covertly passive.

Therefore, presumably, the path to being treated and responding as an adult requires a parallel effort to raise levels of engagement.
